A second performer negotiates with the public inviting them to make the choices that determine the outcome of the piece. Each time the choices create a different piece. As the event progresses and the options are depleted the appearance of freedom evaporates for both the character in the work and the audience. Determine' was conceived for and performed at an event called 'The Possibility of a Vacancy' curated by Sinead McCann, in Dun Laoghaire in 2010.'Determine' is made up of 100 short performance instructions. In the manner of a "choose your own adventure" novel, each text describes an action and gives two choices as to what the character should do next.
